On Needham Street in Newton, a familiar New York street-food brand has settled into a plaza that used to house B.Good. The Halal Guys at 55 Needham Street held its grand opening on Saturday, April 18, 2026, giving MetroWest diners a counter-service stop for chicken, beef gyro, falafel and the white sauce that made the chain famous. Patch and Fig City News both marked the opening; the brand’s own location page lists the shop as open with a Newton phone number. For Muslim families west of Boston who already know the Theatre District or Fenway locations, this is a closer pin on the map — if you confirm hours and what “halal” covers when you order.

From a Manhattan cart to Needham Street

The Halal Guys began as a hot dog cart in New York City in 1990, then switched to American-style halal platters that cab drivers and late-night crowds lined up for. The company says it has grown to more than 100 locations across the United States. According to Newton Patch, the Newton shop is operated by Imran Asghar and Jamal Bourote, the same pair the brand credits with bringing The Halal Guys to Massachusetts in 2017 with a Theatre District restaurant at 137 Stuart Street in Boston. At opening, Patch reported Newton as the chain’s eighth Massachusetts location.

Chief Operating Officer Margaret Carrera told Patch the company was excited to grow “throughout the great state of Massachusetts” after strong demand at its Boston-area shops. Fig City News later listed The Halal Guys among Newton’s 2026 openings and noted it took over the plaza space left by B.Good.

Where it is and how to get there

The address is 55 Needham Street, Newton, MA 02461. Boston Restaurant Talk described the spot as just south of where Needham Street meets Dedham Street and Winchester Street, a short distance south of Route 9 — useful if you are driving from Newton Highlands, Needham, Wellesley or Brookline. The phone number on the brand’s Newton page is (617) 735-0518.

Yelp’s listing for the Newton shop (updated about a month before we checked) and a Postmates storefront both show the same regular hours: Sunday through Thursday 10:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and Friday and Saturday 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. The brand’s own hours table on the Newton page was incomplete when we fetched it, so treat third-party hours as a starting point and call or check thehalalguys.com before a late dinner. The brand’s FAQ says Halal Guys locations appear on Uber Eats, DoorDash, Postmates and Grubhub, with delivery coverage varying by restaurant.

What is on the menu

The Newton location page lists the classics: beef gyro, chicken and falafel as platters or sandwiches, plus combo options, baba ghanoush, hummus, falafel sides, fries and baklava. At opening, Boston Restaurant Talk (also carried by NBC Boston) said a press release highlighted new items including a lamb and beef gyro, waffle fries and a berry mint refresher. Patch described sandwiches and platters with falafel, chicken, beef gyro and spicy barbecue chicken, plus baklava and cheesecake on the dessert side. Prices move, and delivery apps often charge more than the counter. We are not quoting fixed prices here — use the live menu when you go.

A note on halal evidence

The brand’s FAQ and Halal Certifications page say The Halal Guys provides certificates for its chicken and beef gyro covering the entire United States and Canada. A company blog post names four certification bodies for those meats: Halal Food Counseling USA, the Islamic Food and Nutrition Council of Canada, Association Muslimane de Certification, and Halalco. Mass Halal’s restaurant directory lists the Newton shop with a note of halal-certified chicken and beef gyro, which matches the brand’s own framing — it is directory-reported from the business’s statements, not an independent kitchen audit by Mass Halal.

Certifications can change, and certificates for chicken and beef gyro do not automatically answer every question about other menu items, shared fryers, sauces or dessert. If your household needs zabiha detail, alcohol policy or shared-equipment answers, ask the counter and use the brand’s Contact Us page. Scholars and families differ on how much trust to place in national chain certificates; this article is not a religious ruling.

Why Newton matters for MetroWest Muslims

Needham Street is a practical corridor for people who live or work in Newton, Needham and the Route 9 strip and do not want to drive into downtown Boston for a known halal platter. The Halal Guys already sits on Mass Halal’s restaurant map for Newton and several other Massachusetts cities — so this Journal piece is about the Newton opening story and how to use the shop, not a claim that the directory was missing the pin.
